The hamlet of Greenlawn in Suffolk County is an active suburban community. It has activities for kids as well as adults. The Greenlawn Fire Department hosts the annual Greenlawn Fireman’s fair every Labor Day, which is said to be the largest and longest-running such fair in New York. Singer Mariah Carey and Palm Pilot designer Jeff Hawkins both grew up in Greenlawn.
